The question that is usually asked is: Can I connect my Orbi to my existing router? The answer is yes, in two ways:
Option A – Orbi in Router Mode (Default)
In this setup, your modem is connected to the Orbi router. All the tasks of a router are performed by Orbi, and your previous router is bypassed or not used. This is the default setup of Netgear Orbi.
Option B – Orbi in Access Point Mode
As explained in the description above, the Orbi device connects via Ethernet cable to the user’s existing router and essentially acts as an access point for the user’s wireless network. Both options are fully supported. If you’re setting up the Orbi system with your existing router and you’re unsure of the configuration to go with, we can discuss the decision process with you in just a few minutes.
